Josh and Mary had their Engagement session yesterday night. The sunset was gorgeous, and these two were a lot of fun to shoot.
Josh is a family friend that I have known for years. It's really cool to be able to take pictures of him with his beautiful soon-to-be bride. (I am excited for the wedding in September!)

Josh and Mary's Engagement Session

The most peaceful baby...
Yesterday I had the privilege of taking pictures of one of the most peaceful babies I have ever encountered. I swear this little girl could sleep anywhere! Well, the photographer, along with Mom and Dad might have exploited her sleeping abilities a little bit. (But it was too cute to resist!)
I had a Tiffany's box laying nearby, and it made for the perfect prop for a three week old little girl. (Folks this is exactly why I strongly encourage my clients to get pictures within the first 2-3 weeks of life. They like to sleep - a lot! And we can take full advantage of it!)
Here are my favorites from the shoot... (Warning: There are lots!)
Enjoy!

More "Tiffany-style" posing...
A moment with Mom...
...and a moment with Dad.
"Posing" on an ottoman.
"Air-baby"
This is the dress that her mom wore home from the hospital when mom was a baby. Isn't that super cool? (And mom's childhood stuffed animal, as well.)

Heirlooms are a really important of any shoot. If you have something that's important to your family, make sure you bring it along!

Spring is in full effect!
So, today I had an outdoor session, and we got lucky... one of the family members lost their shoe (a flip flop)... so we took lots of pictures barefoot. It was great!
I decided to do something a little different with the pictures this time. I have a bunch of new Photoshop software that really allows me to play with the pictures. So, I decided to play while watching the Pistons game. ;)

Studio Time!
I haven't mentioned much about my studio on the blog lately, but a lot has changed since April 1st. I now have a huge 4ft x 6ft softbox and a strip light - both are just wonderful for shooting in the studio. (Softbox light just can't compare to anything else!)
An awesome family came to grab some "milestone" pictures for birthdays. Get this: They almost had to reschedule due to the eleven birthday parties they have this month. Eleven! Wow!
I loved the outfits on the two kids, and mom was a great sport when I asked her to jump in to the pictures. (I love the first picture!)

New Zealand bound...
On Friday I had the privilege of photographing a family's "milestone" pictures: two of the family members are moving to New Zealand, and they are leaving this weekend. Unfortunately, Mother Nature decided to dish out thunderstorms - but that didn't stop us! We took occasional breaks when we needed to, and when worst comes to worst - shoot in the garage!
Actually, for those of you that don't know this, the garage is one of the best places you can take pictures. The light bounces off the floor and acts like a softbox. Local parking garages are also great for the same reason. So, for those of you without an expensive flash: Grab a camera with a high ISO and/or a large aperture, disable the flash, and head to the local parking structure. Good lighting is guaranteed! But enough photography talk for now...
Anyway, here are some of my favorites from the session...
Enjoy!

Okay, okay... I know that these are pretty similar shots, but I just love them! ;)

First Communion
Graceful and absolutely beautiful. That is the only way to describe the little girl that I had the honor of photographing yesterday afternoon.
I have known this girl since birth, (her Uncle and Aunt are two of our best friends), and we have always commented on how beautiful this girl was when she was a baby - and still is many years later. (Dad, you are going to have fun when she is a teenager!!! hee hee...)
I did a lot of family pictures too. (As most of you guys know, my favorite shots are the relationship shots...) It's always a TON of fun to photograph people you know. You can ask them to do lots of crazy stuff... and believe me, I did! ;)

The rosary and bracelet was hand-made by her Mom. It was one of the most beautiful ones I have ever seen! (I should be posting a picture of it in color - the black and white doesn't do it justice!)

She was pretty serious for the shoot. But her little brother wasn't! ;)
This little animal is a special gift from long ago, and is very important to this family. I always ask clients to bring items that are important to the shoot so we can make sure we capture them as well...

Little Girls
The girls were wonderful, despite the occasional rain shower, and Grandma even showed up to get some photos with the girls.

Such a beautiful little face...
Super-baby!!!! (I was laying down shooting up at the sky.... if you wonder why I always look like Johnny Cash at every shoot - wearing all black - it's because I am on the ground for 90% of the session!)
